We offer to our community a number of church activities, including:

  • Sunday Services and Sunday School - these are on Sunday mornings at 11am, when there is also a Sunday School for young people under the age of 20 with a nursery for very young children.
  • Wednesday Testimony Meetings - these are on Wednesday evenings where those present share their experiences, healings and remarks on Christian Science.
  • Christian Science Reading Rooms - these are our bookshops, a place for study, prayer, and explanation, open daily.
  • Free Talks - these are sponsored for the community on topical subjects from a Christian Science perspective.

Everyone is welcome to these activities.

Theology and Beliefs:

Christian Science, as discovered by Mary Baker Eddy, is a universal, practical system of spiritual, prayer-based healing, available and accessible to everyone. The teachings of the Bible are fundamental to this understanding. We use the King James version in our services. You don’t have to be a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist to practice Christian Science... and you are always welcome at our branch church.

At a Glance:
  • Christian Science is fully explained in Mary Baker Eddy’s primary text, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
  • It’s a form of spiritual devotion and practice, and people who follow it tend to enjoy better emotional and physical health. They also find it helps them answer many of life’s tricky questions; and it enables them to progress on their spiritual journey.
  • We understand God is divine Love, Father-Mother. The true nature of each individual as a child of God is spiritual. God’s infinite goodness, realised through prayer, heals people.

A Bit More Detail:

Christian Scientists acknowledge that God created the universe and called it good, as recorded in the first chapter of Genesis. Therefore, we understand that sin, disease and death could not have been created by God, because they are not good and so, they can be no part of God's perfect creation and no part of God's children, which includes every single man, woman and child. The Bible also states that God is love (I John 4:8). God, the one parent of all creation, our Father-Mother God, loves each and every one of us.

As Christian Scientists we strive daily to see that we can never be separated from that love of God - not by pain, fear, disease, war, famine, debt etc. Using this kind of reasoning and understanding as the basis of our daily prayers for ourselves and the world, as found in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, tangible results are naturally experienced. These include healing of physical illness, restored relationships, freedom from grief, addiction, and so on.

Christian Science practitioners, individuals who devote themselves full time to healing through prayer, are available around the world. Anyone, from any background or religious affiliation, is welcome to contact a practitioner for support and healing. A full list of practitioners may be found in the monthly publication of The Christian Science Journal, which is on sale at any Christian Science Reading Room or available via the online directory here.

To learn more about Christian Science or to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible as a relevant and practical guide to life and understanding God, you can pick up a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures from our Christian Science Reading Room or any good bookshop. You can also find an abundance of healings being experienced today reported in the magazines the Christian Science Sentinel, The Christian Science Journal and on christianscience.com.
